WHO THE RESIDENCY IS FOR

 

The open call addresses jazz instrumentalists, vocalists, improvisers, composers-performers, producers, bands, ensembles, and interdisciplinary artists engaged in performance, artistic research, historical inquiry, or experimentation.

 

Applicants may work with jazz traditions, improvised music, blues-derived forms, groove-based practices, electronic production, sound art, community projects, site-responsive work, expanded notation, oral transmission, or hybrid forms.

 

Individual artists may propose performances, recordings, technical inquiries, research, lecture-performances, improvisational frameworks, or source-based investigations. Bands and ensembles may propose collective methodologies, repertoire projects, rehearsal inquiries, experimental coordination, research questions, or works in progress.

 

Projects may be at any stage, provided they can develop through sustained presentation, contextualization, experimentation, critical dialogue, and public articulation.

 

The program suits artists prepared to examine not only what they perform, but how their practices are historically, materially, institutionally, economically, and organizationally constituted.

 

Participants should be prepared to:

– present and contextualize their work;

– share relevant charts, scores, recordings, texts, documentation, or research;

– demonstrate methods where appropriate;

– discuss historical, technical, aesthetic, ethical, economic, and organizational conditions;

– offer and receive precise artistic and critical feedback;

– participate in collective listening and experimentation;

– remain responsive to the transformation of their projects;

– develop an appropriate public format for Bled;

– contribute to an environment based on attentiveness, reciprocity, care, accountability, and professional responsibility.
